Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission centers at Kamarpukur, a branch center of Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal were started in 1947. The Math center preserves the sacred birth place and the ancestral home of Sri Ramakrishna. It conducts daily worship, religious discourses and observes certain festivals such as Durga Puja, Kali Puja and birthdays of religious celebrities. This is one of the important pilgrim centers of the world. The devotees and visitors from all over the world come everyday to this holy spot and spend some nights in the quest of peace of mind in the picturesque surrounding of the village and serene atmosphere of the temple.
 
The mission branch has a high school for boys, a junior basic school for boys and girls, a free pre-vocational training center, a boys hostel, a mobile audio-visual unit, an area library, and a charitable homoeopathic dispensary.The math and mission centers conduct rural development works such as mobile medical dispensary, leprosy and T.B eradication units, non-formal schools, soil testing laboratory etc under the guidance of the headquarters. also a mini jute mill is run for training of unemployed rural youth in the field of cottage industries.
